Some
Words Spoken is the first collection of poetry by Toronto performance
poets monica s. kuebler and Cynthia Gould.
This
144-page, perfect-bound paperback is an streetwise, edgy collection
of contemporary words. Although many of the pieces grew and
evolved on stage, their impact on paper is equally strong and
startling.
The
poetry in this collection allows the reader to spend some time
with two urban women who are forever coming to terms with their
place in the ever changing media-saturated North American landscape.
The
poems are honest, hip, and jarringly graphic. This release has
something important to say even to those who would normally
never pick up a book of poetry. Divided into five themed sections,
the book covers such subject matter as love, lust, heartbreak,
breakdown, addiction, abuse, rape, suicide, self-destruction,
survival, femininity, empowerment, rock n' roll, joy, and the
overwhelming rush of creation.
Gould
and kuebler's words promise to move and haunt the reader long
after the pages have stopped turning and the book has been placed
back on the shelf. Like all good works of literature, this collection
has bite, wit and brain, and is guaranteed to find its way under
your skin.
